About the project
Echa una mano (“lend a hand”) is a map of places in Barcelona where you can help: give clothes, books or blood, swap a book or give a couple of hours as a volunteer. We tell you where to go and what to do when you get there.
It is an independent project, free to use. It is not endorsed by the City Council or by the organisations on the map.
How we check places
- Every place and every way to help comes from a public source: the organisation’s official website or the City of Barcelona’s open data. We only use sources that allow their information to be reused.
- We do not publish places whose source is doubtful or disputed.
- Each card links to its source and shows the date we checked it. We check the sources again; if a source changes or disappears, we take the place down until it is reviewed.
- Even so, opening hours or needs can change without notice. Before you go, confirm with the organisation on its website or by phone.
All sources and their licences are listed in Data sources.
What we do not collect
- You do not need an account, and we do not use tracking cookies. We count visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, without cookies and only as aggregate numbers.
- We do not store your search text or your IP address. Some searches go through TypeSafe AI: do not enter personal details.
- Your location is used only if you allow it, to sort that search by distance, and it is not stored.
Details are in Privacy.
How to report a problem
Open the place’s card on the map and press “Report a problem”. Choose what has changed (hours, address, no longer accepting help…) and add a note if you like. We do not ask for your name or email: please do not include personal details. If a search does not find what you are looking for, you can use “Suggest a place”.
